Flashback 2005 Wintonbury Baptist Church

Wintonbury Baptist Church 2005

When you visit a church or different churches for the very first time there are first impressions that you make or other member or members make when y'all meet for the first time. It can be either good or bad. Me and my mom felt led to visit Wintonbury Baptist Church then (now just Wintonbury Church) out on Maple Ave. in Bloomfield. We noticed how everyone was singing hymnals and did offering ( which was about 15-20 minutes long) and the preacher preached the word for about 20-25 minutes long (in all church service was 45 minutes long). The pastor & church members were very welcoming to all of the first time visitors because there were a few of us that came for the first time. Probably the one thing that shocked me was when the pastor told us to keep a family in prayer because the son of the family committed suicide at the age of 12 (hung himself). We were encouraged to go into the kitchen for coffee, doughnuts, orange juice, etc. The church was a family oriented church that cared about children, youth, and adults and that's always a good thing. I can't say that being in a church service for 45 minutes was the shortest time I was in a church service (I was in a church service for only 30 minutes before).

Meanwhile, our experience at Wintonbury Baptist church had me & my mom deciding to invite my niece and nephew (then in Hartford now in the Greater Atlanta area) to come visit with us. Both my niece & nephew were in children's church while everyone else was in the sanctuary for church service. Children's church was about 15 minutes or 20 minutes longer because they had refreshments after children's church was over. I met a single mom brunette hair woman while she was waiting for her kids to come out of children's church and while I was waiting for my niece and nephew to come out of children's church. Me and the woman was chatting for a little bit while eating some doughnuts. Anyway, when the children came to the kitchen area to go back to their family all the children were telling their parent or parents how much they had enjoyed children's church, it was bringing back memories when me and my older brother would tell our mom how much fun we had when we were in children's church when we were children. Me & my mom felt that our little mission was up after visiting Wintonbury Baptist Church (the 4-6 months that we were there). We also felt that the Lord have a much better plan for not only Wintonbury Baptist Church but for the churches in the city. As an act of obedience me and my mom visited Wintonbury Baptist Church like the Bible verse 1 Corinthians 16:5 simply says "Likewise greet the church that is in their house..."
